Short Biography

Dr. Md. Tariqul Islam is serving as a professor in the Department of Fisheries of the University of Rajshahi, Rajshahi. He has completed B. Sc. Fisheries (Hons.) and MS in Fisheries Technology from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. Dr. Islam achieved the 2nd Masters in Food Science, Technology and Nutrition under Erasmus Mundus Scholarship from four universities of Europe (Ireland, Belgium, Portugal and Germany) in 2010.

He received Ph.D. degree on food microbiology from Faculty of Agriculture, Kyushu University, Japan under Monbukagakusho (MEXT) scholarship in 2015.  His research interests include fish processing, value-added products development, food quality & safety, MAP packaging, biofilm formation & inhibition, etc. At present in RU, Dr. Islam is working on “Seafood product development involving small and large scale entrepreneurs for domestic and export market” funded by World Bank thorough Sustainable Coastal and Marine Fisheries Project (SCMFP) of Department of Fisheries (DoF). He has published more than 25 research articles in different national and international journals like Food Microbiology, Food Control, Food Research, Journal of Food Research International etc. For the last few years, he has received research grants from different national and international organizations like BARC, BFRI, WorldFish center, Ministry of Education, UGC etc. worth 3 crore BDT. In RU, he has established modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) facilities in the laboratory which is first in Bangladesh so far.
