Short Biography

Dr. Mohammad Jakir Hosen is a Geneticist and Biotechnologist, with a PhD in Medical Genetics from Ghent University, Belgium. In his PhD, he worked to understand the pathomechanism of Pseudoxanthoma Elasticum, a genetic disease that causes ectopic mineralization.

He also completed European Masters of Science in Nematology with great distinction and Erasmus Mundus scholarship from Ghent University, Belgium. Earlier, he did B.Sc in Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering from Khulna University, Bangladesh. At Shahjalal University, Dr. Hosen and his lab trying to understand the genetic, molecular, and physiological factors responsible for rare and common genetic disorders present in Bangladesh. He also studies the public health and epidemiological backgrounds of some infectious diseases. His lab facilitates a semi-automated zebra fish facility for the toxicological assessment of teratogen during early embryonic development. As of September 2022, Dr. Hosen has authored over 55 peer-reviewed articles (Citation: 1135; h index=17; i10 index=27), expert reviews, and a book chapter. He is the recipient of SUST Vice-Chancellor Award-2021, Outstanding COVID-19 Researcher Award-2022, and BAS-TWAS Young Scientist Award-2018. He is a member of the National Young Academy of Bangladesh, Belgian Society of Human Genetics, Belgium Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, American Society of Microbiology, PXE International.
